Educational Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain of the fundamental concepts of robotic surgery: robotic instrumentation, patient selection, patient positioning and trocar placement.
- Discuss the key steps to building a successful robotic surgery program.
- Demonstrate robotic radical prostatectomy by:
- Discussing live surgery, video presentation and the key steps: bladder neck dissection, nerve preservation, lymph node dissection and anastomosis.
- Discussing issues related to prostatectomy: cancer control, potency, continence
- Skills transfer from open or standard laparoscopy to robotic surgery
- Discuss of the key steps of robotic pyeloplasty.
- Identify the indications, concepts and techniques of robotic cystectomy
- Discuss of the indications, concepts and techniques of robotic urogynecologic surgery
- Identify and discuss the economics of robotic surgery. We will discuss the economic environment of robotic surgery and techniques to improve reimbursement.
- Explain and discuss the future of robotic surgery.
