There are several options for treatment of prostate cancer. There is not one “best treatment” that applies to everybody. Each treatment must be individualized.
Here’s a list of the options:
- Surgery Open (traditional) Prostatectomy
- Laparoscopic Prostatectomy
- Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy
- Radiation Therapy
- External Beam Radiation (conformational RT, IMRT, Proton beam RT)
- Brachytherapy (implanting radioactive “seeds”)
- Cryotherapy Hormone therapy HIFU (high intenstity focused ultrasound-not FDA apporved)
- Active Surveillance (formerly called watchful waiting) or observation
These options should be discussed with your urologist.
