Prostate Cancer Treatment Options

There are several options for treatment of prostate cancer. There is not one “best treatment” that applies to everybody. Each treatment must be individualized.

Here’s a list of the options:

• Surgery Open (traditional) Prostatectomy
• Laparoscopic Prostatectomy
• Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy
• Radiation Therapy
• External Beam Radiation (conformational RT, IMRT, Proton beam RT)
• Brachytherapy (implanting radioactive “seeds”)
• Cryotherapy Hormone therapy HIFU (high intenstity focused ultrasound-not FDA apporved)
• Active Surveillance (formerly called watchful waiting) or observation
